I’m on a spending lock down. *sigh* It’s my own fault. I bought something with my credit card, the credit card that I was supposed to be paying off and told my hubs that I was almost done doing so. Then I ran it up again. Now, let me just say, that when I run it up, by no means am I talking like oodles of money. Just a couple hundred. Although, some times a couple hundred is oodles. My intentions were to buy this machine as an investment and upgrade of the machine I had. In my mind, I am going to make all the money back with all my crafting and freelancing. I have made almost enough to pay off my card, Yay me!

However, now I can’t buy other things! Things I “need”. Like yarn. I do need yarn! How can I complete orders without getting more yarn for things that people want?! And then the hubs says don’t take orders for things I don’t have supplies on hand for. Which I partially agree with however, some things are just specialized that I don’t carry certain yarns. Such as this absolutely adorables owl hat I’m currently working on.

I don’t keep fluffy yarn around but after this little cutie is finished, I might have to! I had bought one skein and it was just a little too fluffy to work with so I bought something just a little less fluffy. And it is SOOO fluffy still! I feel like laying my head on this little cloud of a dream hat. Anyway, more about this little hat later! She’ll be done tomorrow!

Back to the craft supply embargo.

I have tons of supplies. I know this. I need to move some of this inventory but I’m a craft hoarder, I’m sure many of you understand this. When I started my crafting as a kid, never did I think I would have an entire bedroom devoted to my crafting whims, let alone have a husband who would understand such things. He does and yet he doesn’t. He sees that sometimes I spend with wonton abandon. I’m supposed to be making money. His solution is for me to stop spending every nickel that comes in and divide the proceeds. Some of it goes to the household purse and some (the smallest some) goes back into the crafting and my business. I like to think that I’m just reinvesting everything now for a bigger payoff later. Makes sense, right? Right!

So now, I need to justify all my spending and do it minimally. That means less visits to A.C. Moore’s, Michael’s and Joann’s. And less visiting ebay, amazon and other discount places. It doesn’t matter if I get things at a bargain. Sadness. It’s such a hard thing to do. I must resist the temptations! Have you ever fallen into this? How does one cope! And the holidays are coming up so I want to buy some awesome holiday things!

ohhhh! I hate when I get myself in these jams.

Awards? What! No WAY!

Well, never did I set out to win awards or even imagine many people following me in these last couple months since I’ve re-started blogging. Here’s a big THANK YOU to Heart Made! Thanks for the nomination 😀 I love all of your comments and blog! I hope that everyone goes to check out her page also! I was inspired by so many people’s love of crafting, knitting and writing, that I wanted to share also since my own blood family doesn’t seem to appreciate it as all of you. I so love you all!

This week marks 50 followers and that’s a big THANK YOU to you also! And what a better way to share the news (and some love in a few) than a post. But that’s part of the rules. They really aren’t rules rules like “No smoking in the boys room” or “15 items or less” but guidelines nonetheless to follow to promote more blogs 🙂 That’s what we are all here for right? To share the love!

Here are the Rules: (I copied these from her blog)

Now some fun facts about myself…

Both my parents were Marines. I grew up in a very structured environment but I’m a crafty artistic flowy kind of person.

I’ve lived all over the world however, I have resided in Pennsylvania for the last 17 years. I’ve found home!

I am absolutely in love with purple. I wish my hair were purple. It will be soon.

Speaking of my hair, I’ve donated nearly 3 feet of mine to different programs. (Not all at once lol!)

I didn’t get my driver’s license til I was 25. I never needed until I decided to go to college. I failed the driving part 3 times. 😦

My children and I have blue birthmarks compliments of my asian descent. When my oldest was born, I accused the hospital of bruising my newborn. They set me straight.

I thought my husband stalked me when we first met. I had no idea how he got my phone number until my best friend told me later that it was her attempt of getting us together. That was 10 years ago.

And now I’m off to go post my nominations!

It’s nothing but a Minion party, party

(sung to the beat of “ganster party” if you know that song lol)

I have been so CRAZY, MANIC busy! My baby’s second birthday party is tomorrow! I have been busy designing, cutting, wrapping and constructing various Despicable Me minion related party decorations. I just wrapped 40 mini candy bars and have a bunch of eyes to cut out for balloons and other decorations. Tonight I will be building an army of minion cupcakes and a cake. Then stuffing goodie bags with fun fun stuff!

I wish I could post a pic of some stuff I’ve got done so far but I can’t get my pics off my phone at the moment! I’ll post all kinds of fun stuff when I’m done. Let me just give a shout out to all you Pinterest lovers posting your minion love. I got some FaBuLoUs ideas!

Man I am so excited to share so here is a little something. We’re doing Pin the Eye on the Minion. Here is the eye!ImageHaha! When I printed it out and cut it the entire eye covers my face! We have a rather large minion to pin to.

Craft Showing

This year has been a little slow on the soap sales. A couple major shows were missed because of family obligations and I’ve been trying to figure out how to get more show time in. A couple have been a let down for business. At one show I didn’t sell a single bar of soap yet sold lots of lotions and lip balms. How’s that for a soap company!

That being said, that means production is down also. Last year’s tally had me making soap every other weekend. Soap was plentiful as were sales. Yet this year, we’ve hit a major lull. Our regulars do keep buying soap and I keep up on the popular blends. I come out with a couple new scents for the seasons. There was an over haul on the branding side and revamping of the product sizing and pricing. Soap is still slow selling. Business is waning for all kinds of reasons.

Today’s show had many direct sales vendors. There were about 18 of us and 4 of the vendor spots were handmade/crafted things. Next to my natural handmade soapstuff was a “natural” direct sales personal care line. I didn’t have much hope there. People love that spa stuff. I read the ingredients and without going into a tirade, suffice it to say that in no way do I believe that Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate and Ammonium Laureth Sulfate will ever be “natural” to me. I like my skin and choose to treat it as good as I can with out junking it up with a chemical assault. Moving on…

I’m just bummed that soap isn’t selling. I know that handmade natural soap is not a necessity in people’s lives like it is for ours. I just need to branch out more I suppose.

That being said (shameless plug) find our soap on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SideDoorSoaps and to peruse the soap to order online: http://www.SideDoorSoaps.com

I’m trying to grow my business. 😀 Thanks for listening
